Suminagashi, which translates as “floating ink,” is the Japanese art of paper marbling. Learn to design elaborate patterns of colored ink, floating on water, which will be transferred to paper to create beautiful monoprints suitable for framing.
Instructor Barbara Hocker has over 30 years of experience as a mixed media artist. She has practiced Suminagashi techniques for several years and incorporates them in her books. See examples of this art in the River/Sea Exhibit currently on view in our galleries.
