Summer Lineup for Kids at TPL

Tolland Public Library has a great starting lineup of programs for children this summer, starting with our summer reading program:

On Your Mark, Get Set,…Read!, this year’s summer reading program, starts on June 17th, the first full day of summer vacation. Summer reading is open to all Tolland students entering grades K and up; sign up online and track all your titles with the Evanced Summer Reader through Tolland Public Library. Runs through Sept. 3rd . You’ll earn prizes, tickets, and more! Counts for the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge too. Sign up on the library Kids/Teen page (www.tolland.org/library ).

Library Truck Day on Friday, June 24th –, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Parking Lot C next to the library. All ages! Come and touch a truck and get in the driver’s seat of a variety of fire, police, rescue, and community vehicles. No sign up required; don’t forget to come in and stock up for your summer reading too!

Manga Smanga on Saturday, June 25th- a cartooning workshop for ages 8 to 13, from 10:30 – 12 p.m. Learn how to draw fun manga and anime characters from Debi Hamuka-Falkenham, professional cartoonist, and make your own Manga cartoon poster to take home. Free but sign up is required for this program sponsored by the Tolland Public Library Foundation.

Reading Therapy Dogs: youngsters who would like to practice their reading skills by reading to a live dog are welcome to sign up for time with Vinny on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and with Dolly on Saturday, June 25th, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Reading to a dog is a wonderful reading motivator!

Yard Goats Mascot Visit – on Thursday, June 30th –1:30 p.m. Meet the mascot for Hartford’s new team; get an autograph & take your picture with him! For ages 5 and up. Sign up in advance.

Mr. Magic – on Thursday, June 30th –, 6 to 7 p.m. Amazing, astounding, and purely entertaining magic show for ages 5 and up. Sign up required.

On Your Mark, Get Set, Have Fun: Bugs & Mosquitoes with naturalist Jane Seymour on Thursday, July 6 at 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Week one of a series of Thursday afternoon programs for students elementary- age and up (runs through August 4th). Sign up in advance. Coming up: July 14: Snakes July 21: Meet the therapy dogs.
