Swanson Shines in Her First Collegiate Cross Country Meet

The former THS standout now runs for James Madison University.

TOLLAND, CT — It was certainly a notable intercollegiate cross country debut for Caitlin Swanson.

Swanson, who graduated from Tolland High School last spring and is a current freshman on the James Madison University women's team, was the top finisher for the Dukes with the third-fastest time (15:22) in the women's 4K race at the UVA Duals last Thursday.

JMU split its two dual meets with a 15-40 win over Liberty 15-40 and a loss to Virginia, 18-40.

Virginia had five of the six best times of the day.

Swanson went to JMU after an accomplished high school career in Tolland. As a senior, she finished 23rd in the State Open and fourth in the state Class M championship meet. As a junior, her respective places were 13th and second and as a sophomore, the places were 15th and second.

Swanson is a health sciences major.
