Sweet Frog Soft Open a Sweet Success.

At the time of this writing there is about 30 minutes left in their soft opening. I arrived at Sweet Frog at roughly 8:30 to a fully packed section of the lot, but luckily found someone leaving as I was scanning a spot. Right outside the entrance to the yogurt shop is a set of lounge chairs for outdoor eating and R&R. A bit cool for outdoor frozen yogurt, but they'll be prime real estate when it's in the 80s/90s on a July afternoon.

Inside, you're hit (but not overwhelmingly so) with the green and pink designs that are the hallmark of sweet frog. To your immediate right is Sweet Frog merchandise, and ahead is a greeter to give you the rundown of the soft-run.

One worker in the far back provides sample cups and then two different sized cups to fill with at least a dozen different flavors of frozen yogurt. As you're direct by one of the owners towards the back with all the details, you notice a lot of families and teens hanging out in small circles and on stools chatting away.

The soft run was packed and from what I heard, it was like that from the moment the doors were opened to the public. Don't take my word for it, take a peek at the pics!

What follows is a series of small scoops and two cheerful assistants to help younger patrons pick out toppings. From sliced/whole fruit to gummy worms to nuts to candy, the toppings buffet truly has all you'd ever want.

You complete your order by scaling out your cup at the front register, which is pre-scaled to remove the weight of the cup itself from your total. At about 49 cents an ounce (I only saw it briefly, so correct me if I'm wrong), it's a fairly reasonable price for a custom cup. I paid a little over six dollars, going heavier on the yogurt than the toppings.

Highlight of the toppings night though were fruit poppers for me. Where have you been all my life!?

High hopes for Sweet Frog and it's first soft run as Tolland residents and residents of neighboring towns tired of snowy weather appear eager to dive right back into a cold scoop as Summer draws ever near.
