The Crandall Park Planter Contest is Back

Judging starts in June.

The popular "Plant a Pretty Planter Contest" is back at Crandall Park.

The town's recreation department is sponsoring the event.

Crandall Park has eight round 4-foot diameter concrete planters, located in the lower parking lot along Cider Mill Road, which are seen by hundreds of people a day and are in need of decorating, recreation officials said.

So a contest has been created to see who can be the most creative. The deadline for entering is May 13 and all barrels must be ready for judging by June 3, recreation officials said.

Officials said a bonus would be to have the planters ready when the Memorial Day Parade passes by on Sunday, May 26.

Designs must be family friendly and non-permanent, but able to last through the summer, officials said.

A team of judges will choose the top three based on creativity, and use of color and texture.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

To enter call the Recreation Office at 871-3610 or email  tainsworth@tolland.org.
