The Fresh Voices of Youth Expressed Through Art

Approximately a dozen Tolland High School art students exhibited their work at Arts Center of Tolland over the last two weekends.

This past Sunday was the last chance to catch the innovative works of art created by Tolland High School advanced art students on display at the Arts Center of Tolland. The exhibit featured drawing, photography and painting from the previous semester.

Christy Forschner, a senior in AP Studio Art, greeted visitors to the gallery on late Sunday afternoon. She said 13 students from AP Studio Art, Art Seminar and Photo Seminar presented work for the exhibit.

Her own two pieces, parts of a 12-piece installation, were drawn from her passions for travel, astronomy and space study. "I thought, wouldn't it be amazing to have the job to map out all of the stars?" she said.

Her enthusiasm is captured in the vivid colors and wistful nature of wanderlust as a boat with wings moves gracefully through space.

Forschner is planning to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. "I was already accepted into the Illustration program," she said.

She, like the other art students whose work was on display, have dabbled in a variety of media, including drawing, sculpture, glasswork, edible art, and jewelry. "Digital or traditional painting is my favorite," Forschner said.
