Tolland and Mansfield Students Compete in Poetry Slam Competition

The Fourth Annual Tolland Public Library Foundation Poetry Slam saw a number of students from both towns compete.

Teen poets from Tolland and Mansfield competed in the Fourth Annual Tolland Public Library Foundation Poetry Slam Thursday night.

The slam was hosted by Tolland High School English teacher James MacArthur.

Natalie Wyse of Tolland took first place; Tolland student Kacey Dutton came in second, and Kylee White-Ramirez of Tolland came in third.

The other poets that competed were Kate Barry and Norlinda Steward of Mansfield and Jillian Fiddler, Abby Lateer and Sonika Kohil of Tolland.

The slam was judged by THS senior Kathleen Moriarty; Ginny Brousseau, the young adult/children’s librarian at the Tolland Public Library; Margot Martello, an assistant principal at Tolland High; Library Foundation President Linda Byam and Library Foundation Secretary Kate Farrish.

Library Foundation Vice President Mary Jo Leahy was the timekeeper, and Dani Titterton, a member of the Library Foundation board of directors, was the scorekeeper.
