To honor the wonderful teaching career of Barbara Phelps, and to remember her as the warm and loving person she was, the United Congregational Church of Tolland is renaming the Education Building at the church as the “Barbara Phelps Christian Education Center.” The dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 14th, at 9:45 am.
Barbara Phelps, a long-time resident of Tolland, taught Sunday School at the church for over 50 years. For many of those years she was ably assisted by her grandson, Roger Pierson, also of Tolland. Barbara also taught young children at the Tolland Green Learning Center for many years. She was honored for her long-standing devotion to the education and caring of children, spanning multiple generations, in a special church ceremony on September 16, 2012. She passed away in December of 2013, at the age of 83.
