Tolland Community Fund Seeks Advisory Committee Nominees
A new community fund committee is being set.
Feb. 9, 2020
The Town of Tolland has recently been presented with a dynamic civic opportunity, one that incorporates grant funds for programs and citizen participation. In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 community funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes Tolland. The purpose of the community funds is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs in their towns, encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement and anchor the Hartford Foundation in each town.

Town residents will play a lead role in deciding how their community funds will be used. Each town’s community fund will be handled by an Advisory Committee of town residents that must be inclusive, representative and reflective of all residents of the community. The advisory committee will identify community needs and design a grantmaking process aimed to ensure that the community funds can have the greatest impact for the benefit of town residents. Hartford Foundation staff will provide guidance on topics such as participatory decision making, grantmaking and fund development, as needed.
In order to establish the initial advisory committee, a Selection Committee has been formed to conduct broad outreach to town residents informing them of the opportunity to be a part of this advisory committee and accepting nominations. Members of the Selection Committee include Rev. Hannah Howe, Larry Perosino, Rosemarie Capuano, Rob Hoskin and Kathy Bach. To submit a nomination for the Tolland Community Fund Advisory Committee, please complete the form at www.hfpg.org/tollandcf, or obtain and return a paper copy of the form at the Tolland Library. Questions may be emailed to hfpg4tolland@gmail.com. Deadline for forms is March 15.
