No
Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
Since moving to Tolland more than four years ago, my family and I have come to love the historic charm of the town, the amazing open spaces and parks, the top-notch school system, and the welcoming community. I made the decision to run for Town Council because I think it is my obligation to use my time and talents to better a town that has offered me so much. I want to ensure that the quality public schools, public works, and public safety continue to be hallmarks of our town.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Increased taxes.
It is vital to Tolland's long-term success that we make smart, data driven, investments in our public schools, public safety, and public works to ensure their high quality for years to come. At the same time, increased taxes can have a significant impact on seniors and working families like mine. As a result, Tolland must encourage the development of appropriately zoned businesses in order to ensure Tolland residents are not shouldering the entire tax burden of ensuring top notch public services. We must also continue to broaden and simplify Ordinance 60, a property tax relief program for seniors and people with disabilities.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
As an attorney, I am often called to work with others of varying viewpoints to reach a consensus acceptable to both parties. I believe this experience will enable me to work with all members of the Town Council regardless of political affiliation or background to arrive at solutions that are in the best interests of the town and all of its residents.
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Being a parent of a young child, I think it is critical that the Town Council think about the long-term success of our town. As I continue to campaign and learn from residents how the Town Council can best serve them, I am mindful of pressing issues facing our residents, including public safety, contaminated wells, ensuring high quality public education for all students, crumbling foundations, and ensuring our community is welcoming to all its residents.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
After graduating first in my class from law school, I've spent time working at the Connecticut Judicial Branch, working in private practice, and ultimately returning to state service. Throughout this time, I have developed strong analytical skills that will help me to think critically about each decision the Town Council must make and the ramifications that decision will have on Tolland residents. Additionally, I have held numerous leadership positions, such as serving as a squadron commander in the Air Force ROTC, overseeing law students in Law Review, and supervising attorneys in my current role.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
The best advice I've ever received is to always work hard and keep an open mind to the viewpoints of others. No single person or political party has all the answers, and our town is better off when its elected leaders work together to arrive at the best result for the town.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Local government has a huge impact on people’s day to day lives. If I am fortunate enough to be elected to the Town Council, I promise to always strive to make decisions that are in the best interests of Tolland and all of its residents
