Tolland Rides the Lightning to State Cup Championship
The U12 girls Tolland Lightning travel soccer team recently completed one of the finest seasons in Tolland Soccer Club history. This hugely talented group of 17 unassuming girls has just accomplished a very special feat by winning the CJSA Connecticut State Cup and becoming State Champions. In 5 cup games the Lightning outscored their opponents at an almost unfathomable 19-0 and capped off the Cup with a 3-0 win over Fairfield in the championship game.
Their phenomenal season also included going undefeated in the North Central District, outscoring their opponents 21-8, and becoming Co-Champions of the league with the South Windsor Bobcats.
The Lightning’s incredible defense included superb performances by Charlotte Gerow, Madison Kolb, Grace Kavanagh, Kaitlyn Wood, Mackenzie Doubleday, and Allyson Parent. Sophia Rotondaro, Anna Frey, and Sara Clokey added magnificent play in goal for Tolland while also contributing to the offensive attack. Midfield transition with amazing hustle was led by Peyton Bornstein, Erica Burns, Isabelle McNamee, Emma Urban and Kelly LeBel. The offensive attack was spearheaded by Alyssa Giroux, Shea Reed, and Kaiya Deurloo.
Coaches Erin Reed, Mike Reed, David Burns, goalie coach John Doubleday, and running coach Kevin Wood are all incredibly proud of the heart, hustle and sportsmanship that this team has displayed.
