TOLLAND, CT — Tolland High School administrators have announced the top students for the Class of 2018.

Here is the official announcement from Principal Dominique Fox:

Class Salutatorian, Jared Poulos
"Jared is a very diligent, self-motivated and personable young man. His academic achievements distinguish him among others in the class. Jared has been recognized with several awards of excellence in various academic areas. He has completed a very competitive college preparatory curriculum including honors/AP coursework in social studies, science, and mathematics. Jared has also taken early college experience courses in UConn Biology and UConn Chemistry. Through his participation in an internship program with the Network Administrator in our district, he has advanced his computer skills and demonstrated independence, reliability and good personal skills.

"For the past three years, Jared has been involved in the RAGE Robotics Team. In addition to building strong social relationships, this team has also provided him with an academic challenge. While Jared has consistently worked with the programming team to integrate code, he has also branched off to work with younger students interested in the field. Alongside other members of the team, Jared has volunteered his time to help with Lego Robotics at the middle school. He has gained hands-on experience with element analysis, soil data and isotope data while serving as a lab assistant at Wesleyan University for two summers.

"Jared is a fine young man who is enthusiastic about pursuing a degree in computer science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute."

Class Valedictorian, Angela Li
"Angela is an extremely bright young lady who has challenged herself academically and consistently earned the highest of marks. Since her freshman year, she has enrolled in many challenging Honors level courses, Early College Experience courses through the University of Connecticut, and Advanced Placement courses. Academically, she has won numerous awards for earning the highest average in Honors English I, French II, Biology, French III, French IV, and the Senior Award for World Language.
"Angela balances a demanding curriculum with involvement in several interscholastic athletic teams, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, as well as service to her school and local community. She has been an active member of our girl’s cross country team the past four years and has competed in both outdoor track and lacrosse for two years. In addition, she has found much success in our DECA business club, having competed at both the state and national level. Her artistic talent is evident through her participation in our yearly school musical. In terms of volunteer work, she has volunteered at bottle drives for Tolland Project Graduation, served as an intern at Feeding Children Everywhere, and assisted with the town’s annual Cider Mill Road Race.
"Angela is an outstanding young lady who is not only driven to succeed; she is also motivated to learn. She plans to major in Engineering at the University of Connecticut."
