Tolland High School Runners Qualify for New England Championships

The Eagles girls team and an individual boy will compete next weekend based on stellar performances at Friday's State Open.

MANCHESTER, CT — The girls cross country team from Ridgefield High School ended the three-year reign of Tolland by capturing the State Open championship Friday at Wickham Park in Manchester.

In winning the Open for the sixth time since 2003, Ridgefield compiled 122 points to 130 for runnerup Tolland, which has won six straight Class M titles and was seeking its fourth consecutive Open crown.

Hayley Collins (2nd), Katherine Deloreto (3rd) and Michaela Caron (10th) placed in the top 25 for the Eagles, who advance to the New England Cross Country Championships Nov. 12 at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, R.I.

Tolland's Josh Bedard also qualified for the New Englands by finishing 17th in the boys race.
