Tolland Intermediate School Dismissed Early After Electrical Issue

The school had partial power but it couldn't be confirmed whether it would keep essential systems on

Tolland Intermediate School students had a really short day after arriving to the school following a winter weather delay and being dismissed early due to a power issue.

One of the three power lines that feeds the school had failed, said Superintendent Walter Willett.

Partial power was restored, but there was concern that the PA system, fire system lighting and heat in certain areas of the school wouldn’t last the full school day.

“While we could combine classrooms, and move students to rooms that have heat, etc. the bigger concern is that we cannot confirm other systems required for student safety would continue to function,” Willett said in an email.

The school was dismissed at 12:45 p.m. Some students who coulnd’t be received by their parents at the normal bus stop were transported to Birch Grove, where they had the option of waiting for their parents or going home on the Birch Grove bus run.

Repairs are being made and the school is expected to open again on Tuesday.
