Tolland Man Accused Of Impersonating Police Officer: CSP

TOLLAND, CT — A Tolland man was charged after Connecticut State Police said he arrived at the scene of a medical call in an SUV equipped with flashing red and blue lights and claimed to be a federal officer.

Kurt Hoss, 58, of Tolland, was charged with impersonation of a police officer and improper use of colored or flashing lights, according to state police.

Troopers from Troop C were called to Baxter Road at about 1:51 p.m. Aug. 8 to assist emergency medical personnel with a medical call, police said in a release issued Tuesday morning.

While troopers were at the scene, Hoss arrived in a blue Mazda SUV displaying red and blue flashing lights and asked whether they needed assistance, state police said.

When troopers asked which agency he represented, Hoss said he was a federal officer and left the immediate area, according to police.

A short time later, troopers saw the same SUV parked behind State Police cruisers with its red and blue lights still activated, police said.

A Department of Motor Vehicles check showed the vehicle was registered to Hoss.

During further questioning, Hoss told troopers he worked for “Special Forces,” according to state police.

Police said he was unable to provide legitimate law enforcement credentials when asked.

Troopers detained Hoss while they investigated.

Police said an inspection of the SUV found red and blue light bars on both windshields, additional flashing lights underneath the vehicle, a radio scanner and two sets of handcuffs with keys on the front passenger seat.

Troopers also found another pair of handcuffs in a pouch on Hoss' belt, according to state police

The items were seized as evidence.

Hoss was arrested and taken to Troop C for processing

According to online court records, Hoss was arraigned Monday in Rockville Superior Court and released on a promise to appear in court Sept. 21.
