An investigation began in late January after state police were alerted to Northrop's alleged activities through those close to the girl and school officials, according to a warrant. The state Department of Children and Families was altered and a "safety plan" was developed for the girl, according to a warrant.

A warrant makes reference to testimony that describes Northrop staging "games" with the girl that mimicked actions on videos. He repeatedly made advances toward her, according to a warrant.

A warrant makes reference to the girl saying "no" to Northrop and Northrop telling her to keep quiet about the goings-on.
