
Arlene (Burns) Spiller, 95, of Tolland and formerly of Rockville, loving wife of the late Herbert Spiller, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Rockville General Hospital with her family at her side.
Born in Rockville, the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Steppe) Burns, she grew up and lived in Rockville, Farmington, and Vero Beach, Florida before returning to Tolland four years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1982, Arlene was a legal secretary at Gordon, Muir & Foley, LLP in Hartford for many years. Before that, she had worked as the secretary for the Tolland County Coroner. Arlene was an avid reader of novels, and she enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and had water skied for many years. She loved to travel with family and friends both here and abroad.
She is survived by her beloved children, Jo-Ann Forrest and her husband Larry of Tolland, Alan Spiller and his wife Lucretia of Rimrock, AZ, and Terry Patella and her husband James of South Windsor; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Burns.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. Burial will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington.
Arlene’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Woodlake At Tolland and Rockville Hospital Hospice for the wonderful care that they gave to their mother.
