Concetta “Connie” Landi, 92, of Woodlake at Tolland, passed away at Rockville General Hospital on January 12, 2017.
She was born in Calabria, Italy June 14, 1924 and was the daughter of Bruno and Caterina Rachiele (Leuzzi). She met and married her husband Erminio, a U. S.born citizen living abroad, and they continued to live in Italy to raise a family. In 1954, her husband, the love of her life, decided to return to his native land in Connecticut to pursue a better life for his family in the U.S. She joined him in 1955 by braving the voyage from Genoa, Italy to the port of New York on the Ocean Liner Roma. During the long journey, she cared for her five children, ranging in age from one to eleven years of age, patiently attending to their needs and keeping them safe. The family settled and lived in Hartford.
A devoted mother and homemaker, Connie was an excellent cook and spent a great deal of time making native Italian dishes and holiday treats for family and friends. She was also a great seamstress, having learned the craft in Italy. She used that craft to decorate her home with custom curtains, linens and accessories and also worked at the Cheney Mills for a time.
