
Dorothy Marie Spalla, 93, of Tolland, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 while at Woodlake at Tolland Health Center.
Dorothy was born in Hartford on July 27, 1924 to the late Louis P. and Marie (Dellasandre) Spalla. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School and University of Saint Joseph, majoring in chemistry, minoring in English and mathematics.
Dorothy worked in the Hartford area and secured employment as a civilian with the United States Government Department of the Airforce and Office of Administration in Wiesbaden Germany. There she also volunteered at a disabled children’s hospital donating her time, as well as bringing gifts and treats to eat.

Dorothy retired, moving back to the United States, where she has since resided. Here she also helped support the Hockanum Valley Community Console and the Cornerstone Foundation, and she would purchase school supplies for local schools and Haiti on an annual basis.
Dorothy is survived by her brother Louis P. Spalla, Jr, his wife Betty, and their son John; her nephew and nieces, Raymond Jr., his wife Connie, of Boulder, CO; Jean Spalla of East Hartford; Karen and Charlie Wassell, of Ellington; Bill and Marlene Spalla of Colchester. She also leaves great-nieces and great-nephews, Michael, Jeffrey, Tyler, Brian, Ryan, Elizabeth, Amber, Brittany, Justin, and Jordan; two great-great-nephews Dominic and Jaxson; two great-great-nieces, Lilly and Emma. Dorothy is predeceased by her brother Raymond E. Spalla and his wife Marion.

In addition, Dorothy would like to extend her heartfelt thanks and gratitude for her wonderful neighbors who have provided selfless support and love to her while living in Tolland; Joe and Patty Pallis, sons Joseph, Patricia, Jonathan, and Samuel; David and Joanne Roper, sons Christopher, David Jr., and Benjamin; Vicki and Nick Decio, Jennifer and Jared Millington, and special friends Becky Ellert, Jean and Jack Hexter, Elaine Champlain, and Vicki Daniels.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon, from 9-10:30 prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville. Interment will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
