Tolland Obituary: Maria Hirth, 97

Maria (Amodio) Hirth, 97, of Tolland and formerly of Ellington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

Born in Sicily, Italy, the daughter of the late Guisseppe and Sebastiana (Interlandi) Amodio, she came to the United States in 1927 and lived in Brooklyn, NY, Hartford, East Hartford, and Ellington before moving to Tolland twenty-four years ago. Maria was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for many years. She was a communicant of St. Matthew Church in Tolland. Maria was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Tolland Senior Center, and she enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her beloved children, John Hirth of Tolland, Maryjane Thibodeau and her husband Maurice of Chaplin, Diane Hirth Delorme of Manchester, Thomas Hirth and his wife Jacqueline of East Hartford, Raymond Hirth and his wife Kelly of East Hartford, and Andrew Hirth of South Windsor; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Amodio, and her sister Pauline Cannizzaro.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
