Tolland Obituary: Marie Durrenberger, 76

Condolences to her family and friends.

Marie (Ferland) Durrenberger, 76, of Tolland, formerly of South Windsor, died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 10, 2017.

After being a homemaker for 12 years, in 1973, Marie returned to the workforce and was always proud of her roles. However, she was never one to retire and for the past twenty-five years along with selling insurance, she spent hours decorating, beading, or gardening.

Since 1993, she and Richard, her husband of 57 years, spent their summers in South Windsor, and then Tolland, and their winters on North Hutchinson Island in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She was proud of the lovely homes she kept in both Connecticut and Florida but especially loved the ocean views and her snow-bird friends. She loved working on big projects and in the winter of 2004/2005, she and a committee of her dear friends planned and designed the reconstruction of the Florida condo’s club house after it was destroyed earlier that year by Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne.

With a contagious laugh, Marie would always take time to listen to or tell a joke; the raunchier, the better. She also loved technology and was relied upon by her neighbors to fix all sorts of computer challenges. She loved her children and their families and greatly appreciated their support during her long battle with brain cancer.

She leaves her beloved husband of 57 years, Richard Durrenberger, her children, Mark Durrenberger and his wife Jocelyne of Hudson, MA, Stephen Durrenberger and his wife Roberta of Lake Wales, FL, and Yvonne Pitzi and her husband Thomas of Union, ME; seven grandchildren, Marcelle, Russell, Curtis, Meredith, and Nathan Durrenberger, and Emily Schaefer and her husband Kevin, and Samuel Pitzi; a great grandson, Bryson; a brother, Michael Ferland of East Hartford; three sisters, Nicole Richardson and her husband David of Fayetteville, PA, Celine Zepke of Manchester, and Claire Zdanis and her partner Jerry Levitsky of Newington; a brother-in-law, Edward Durrenberger of East Hartford, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by parents Ogeda and Armande (Desranleau) Ferland of East Hartford, her sister Francis Zwick of Vernon, and her brother Claude Ferland of Mansfield.
