Tolland Obituary: Marilyn (Giggey) Barton

Marilyn (Giggey) Barton, 81, of Tolland, beloved wife of the late David Barton, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at Woodlake at Tolland.

Born in Presque Isle, Maine, the daughter of the late Fred and Lou (Weeks) Giggey, she grew up and lived in Rockville before moving to Tolland over 38 years ago. Marilyn was a nurse’s aide at Rockville General Hospital for over 20 years before her retirement in 2003. After her retirement, she worked at Johnson Memorial Hospital for seven years, and she retired from there in 2012. She was a graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 1951. She loved to read and travel. Marilyn was a member of Rockville United Methodist Church, and Tolland Senior Citizens and their book club.

She is survived by her son, Michael Kuhnly, of Colorado; a grandson; a great-grandchild; her sister, Claudia Woytik, of Ashford; and several nieces, nephews and close friends. She was also predeceased by her brother, Fred Giggey; and her sister, Joan Brenger.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery.
