
Pietro A. Campelli, 86, of Tolland, went to be with his Lord on Friday, November 27, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 9 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Santa Maria Degli Angeli, Assisi, Italy, in 1929, he was the son of the late Crispolto and Maria (Aristei) Campelli. Pietro studied civil engineering at Instituto Tecnico Superiore in Assisi and studied business at the Stenography Toscano in Perugia. He also attended Hillyer College, Manchester Community College, and UCONN, and earned a certificate in landscape design from Lifetime Careers, Los Angeles.
In 1951, shortly after his arrival to the United States, he joined the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. In 1954, he began a career with the Connecticut Department of Transportation. He retired in 1979 and spent some time working in real estate before taking a position with the City of Hartford as a Real Property Appraiser, retiring in 1992. He lived in Vernon for 50 years, serving on the Conservation Commission, before moving to Tolland in 2013. He was a communing member of Prospect Bible Chapel in Hartford.

He was the beloved husband of Ruth Campelli, to whom he was married for 57 years. Besides his wife Ruth, he is survived by his 4 sons, Crispoldo Campelli and his wife Veronica of Chelmsford MA, Antonio Campelli and his wife Ellen of Vernon, Mario Campelli and his wife Christine of Tolland, and Marco Campelli of Tolland; a niece Margherita Smith in Italy; and 13 grandchildren, Caterina, Antonio, Marco, Maria, and Chelsea Campelli of Tolland, Jessica Campelli of Vernon, Amanda Campelli of Rocky Hill, Cassandra Campelli of Houston TX, and Matthew Campelli and his wife Kimberly of Lowell MA, Jonathan Campelli of Burlington MA, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Pietro Campelli of Chelmsford MA. He was predeceased by his sister Barbarina.
Pietro and Ruth enjoyed traveling to Italy to visit family in Calabria and Assisi. In addition, Pietro had a great love of land, gardening, engineering, fishing, chess, and fighting for justice and truth, which he passed on to his sons.

His family will receive friends for visiting hours on Wednesday, December 2, beginning at 2 PM followed by a memorial service celebrating Pietro’s life at 5 PM at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. A private interment will be held in Meriden.
