Tolland Obituary: Stephen Aukerman, Sr., 74

Stephen Eugene Aukerman, Sr., 74, beloved husband of 50 years to Kathleen S. (Sullivan), passed away peacefully September 15, 2015 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Stephen was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandpa.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Vassar; son, Stephen E. Aukerman and his wife Lisa; his daughter, Karen A. Finik and her husband Frank. He was adored by his grandchildren, Laura, Kayleigh, Zachery, Nicholas, Ally, Grace and Jason. He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Fisher and Marjorie Lily and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Glenn T. and Grace Lucille Fiber; brothers, Duane Aukerman and Michael Aukerman; sister, Mary Lou Franks. He spent many years caring, loving and entertaining them. He could always make them laugh and smile.

Stephen served proudly for four years in the Marine Corp, stationed in Groton in the military police. He worked as a lieutenant in Hartford Corrections for 20 years. He was a member of the Local Correctional Officers Union: AFSCME local 1565 of CT. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 200 in Rocky Hill. He will be extremely missed by his family and all that knew him.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd. (Rte. 195) Tolland, CT 06084 with a Funeral Home Service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge, MA.
