Tolland Residents Speak Out On Development

Tolland residents responded to a survey question about development in town.

TOLLAND, CT — Tolland residents came up up with a variety of answers when asked Monday what type of businesses they would like to see in town.

The question was posed on the Tolland Patch Facebook page Monday at noon and 40 comments were posted by 4 p.m.

Starbucks or a privately owned coffee shop were thge most popular answers, along with some type of sandwich shop. A brewhouse was a popular choice.

Fast food joints were mostly absent from the suggestions, but White Castle's little square burgers were mentioned.

  • A factory or manufacturing company

  • A car wash in the central part of town

A public forum on economic development was on tap for Monday night at thge Lodge at Crandall Park.

Opinions similar to the Patch survey was on the agenda. Here is the meeting call from town officials:

"What comes to mind when you think of “economic development” in Tolland? Building the tax base? Providing jobs? Obtaining goods and services without having to leave town? At this workshop, we will explore the work and practice of economic development and how the town can best engage in economic development. We will create a potential economic development action agenda for Tolland though an interactive process that engages the attendees in the needs, wants, and capacities of the town to improve economic development."
