Tolland Suicide Call Leads to Police Dog Tracking Down Fugitive

The man fled the scene as state police were assisting the victim.

TOLLAND — What began as state police trying to assist an apparently suicidal woman turned into a police dog tracking down a fugitive near the Tolland Green.

The incident took place on Saturday at about 4 p.m., when police responded to a report of a woman trying to harm herself at a Tolland residence, according to an arrest report. When troopers arrived, they began helping the woman and head someone leave the house through the back door, according to a police report.

The man, identified as 26-year-old Gary Cote of Pleasant Street in Enfield, fled into some nearby woods.

A police dog team was called in for a tracking operation, state police said.

Police dog Hero tracked Cote through several backyards and he was eventually apprehended on Route 74 near the Tolland Green, according to an arrest report.

It turns out, Cote was wanted to skipping out on a court date for disorderly conduct second-degree criminal mischief and interfering. A judge at Rockville Superior Court Ordered ho, re-arrested on June 29, according to judicial system records.
