Tolland Track Athletes Shine at State Open

The Eagles produced seven placewinners Monday.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — One team successfully defended its title, while another captured its first ever as the best of Connecticut high school track and field gathered at Willow Brook Park Monday for the State Open.

Bloomfield ran away from the field in the girls division, totaling 84 points to far outdistance runnerup Danbury's 52. The Warhawks captured the Open for the second straight year and seventh time overall.

On the boys' side, Daniel Hand emerged victorious in an extremely tight pack, posting 32 points to 30 for Danbury. The Tigers' lone state championship prior to Monday was the Class L crown in 2010.
