Tolland Town Council approves

Veterans Memorial Park

TOLLAND VETERAN CORNER — The Tolland Town Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, to approve the designation of the Crandall’s park Gazebo location next to the Tolland Lion’s Field as the Tolland Veterans Memorial Park. The Town Council Representative, Tammy Nuccio, expressed her support for this project, stating this is an excellent idea to honor Tolland Veterans. She also said she would like to see the Veterans Memorial on Tolland Town Green expanded for all to appreciate as you travel through the center of Tolland green.”

Town Council Chairman Steven Jones said the Veterans Recognition Committee is “working diligently with veterans and volunteers.” The Veterans Commission will begin its first Coffee House meet and greet on August 9, 2022, at the UCC of Tolland church. We invite all Tolland Veterans to join us to learn about the positive programs that are being planned and how YOU can become involved. Jones said the new park could become a gateway for a veterans trail, with accessible walkways from the Veterans Memorial Park to the town green and the Tolland Military Museum. This was seen as an excellent first step,

Perne Maynard, chairman of the Veterans Recognition Committee, thanked the Tolland Town Council for all of their support and, as a veteran himself, spoke about plans for the future. This winter, he also plans to digitize the Town Hall’s wall of honor, memorializing Tolland men and women who served or are serving in the U.S. military. He is also involved with the recent Oral History project in Tolland. He will concentrate his efforts on recording Tolland Veteran stories of their experiences for our younger generation to realize what a Veteran endures.

Now that the designation of the Veterans Park is official, the Veteran Commission looks forward to working with the Tolland Town Council to make this Veterans Memorial Park project a reality.
