Tolland Wrestlers Excel at Rodney Smith Classic

The Eagles had a pair of individual champions.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — A pair of wrestlers from Tolland High School had a successful day on the mat Saturday at the annual Rodney Smith Classic tournament at East Windsor High School.

Ryan Angers (138) and Michael Angers (152) won their individual weight classes in the 14-school event named for Smith, bronze medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and captain of the 1996 U.S. Olympic wrestling squad.

Smith was in attendance and presented awards to the champions. Also on hand was his close friend Jim Olson, the former longtime East Windsor coach who started the tournament in 1998 as the East Windsor Invitational, and shortly renamed it in honor of Smith.
