Troopers Snag 100-Plus Bags of Drugs in Tolland

A traffic stop led to troopers intercepting a large stash of narcotics in Tolland.

TOLLAND, CT — A state Troop C traffic stop turned into a sizable drug bust with state police snagging more than 100 bags of heroin on Thursday.

Trooper Kyle Kaelberer of the Troop C Narcotic Enforcement Team was conducting a detail on Interstate-84 eastbound in the area of Exit 69 in Tolland and, at approximately 7 p.m., he stopped a Pontiac Grand Prix for speeding as it exited the highway, according to a report.

After the occupants consented to a search, Troopers and state police dog Ugo found a "large bundle of narcotics" in the passenger's pocket, according to a report.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in locating additional narcotics and liquid methadone, a report indicates. In all, 110 individual bags of heroin were seized, approximately 3 grams of crack cocaine, and 3 ounces of liquid methadone.

The occupants of the Grand Prix were transported to Troop C, where they were processed and held on $100,000 cash/surety bonds each, pending arraignments at Rockville Superior Court on Friday, state police said.

Asia Scott, 27, of Stafford, was charged with:

  • Possession of heroin with intent to sell
  • Possession of a narcotic
  • Narcotics not in proper container
  • Speeding

Dennis Smith, 27, of Enfield, was charged with:

  • Possession of heroin with intent to sell
  • Possession of a narcotic
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
