TOLLAND, CT β€” A temporary fix is in place after a beefy pickup truck with a young driver behind the wheel took out a fire hydrant in Tolland, fire officials said.

The crash took place just before 7 a.m. on Jan. 30, state police said.

According to a state police crash report, a 2004 Ford F350 Super Duty truck was heading south on Grant Hill Road. The driver, a 16-year-old from Tolland, lost control of the vehicle, slid off the road and skidded into a "deep mud area," state police said.

In the process, the truck ran over a fire hydrant and tore it off at the base, according to a crash report.

The Tolland fire department responded to the scene to take care of the corresponding water leak. Fore Chief John Littell said the hydrant was temporarily repaired and is operational until until it can be replaced.
