SUV Falls Off Carrier, Hits Truck On Highway In Tolland

A truck spilled fuel on the highway after a wild crash in Tolland.

TOLLAND, CT — A sport utility vehicle slid off a carrier and hit a truck head-on in the area of Exit 68 on Interstate-84 Monday afternoon.

The crash took place at about 3 p.m. on the westbound side.

Just the breakdown lane was open for about an hour, but it took cleanup crews hours to free up all lanes, state police said.

The crash caused 50 gallons of diesel fuel to spill, fire officials said.

Both a state Department of Transportation sand truck and a crew from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were called to the scene.

At 4:45 p.m., fire officials said no one was injured and lanes were beginning to open. All lanes were not open until nighttime, authorities said.
