Veterans Coffeehouse: Where should we go from here?

Veterans Coffeehouse: Where should we go from here?

In July 2022, the Tolland Veterans Recognition Commission began a new venture by establishing the Tolland Veterans Coffeehouse. Our five Commission members and 11 Tolland Veterans came to the first one. We were pleased that we had a great beginning. But each month, fewer people attended these meetings. We scheduled exciting speakers and experts to help our Veterans navigate the Veterans Affairs bureaucracy. At our upcoming March Coffeehouse, the day's discussion will be to get your thoughts and ideas on the topics, programs, and Veteran community outreach you would like to see our committee develop in Tolland.

The Veteran’s Commission has begun discussing possibilities for getting Veterans together in Tolland.

  • The library is interested in hosting Veteran's events such as movies, discussion groups, or speakers in the new media room.
  • The Tolland Senior Center suggested that Wednesday afternoons would be an excellent time for Veterans to meet downstairs. They could enjoy coffee, talk, play cards, play pool, and discuss new programs.
  • Our Commission plans are to enhance the Veterans Memorial on Tolland Green this year, and we need your positive support to make this project happen.
  • We will sponsor a “Wreaths Across America Program” for the fall of 2023. The Tolland Veterans Commission wants to coordinate this program with local organizations to place wreaths on grave markers in Tolland.
  • The Veterans Commission will soon have an office at the Tolland Courthouse where Veterans with questions about their healthcare or personal issues can talk with a Veteran professional.

Our next coffeehouse will be this Tuesday, April 11, at 10 AM in Fellowship Hall at the United Congregational Church of Tolland. We would like to hear your opinions on these topics and any other ideas you might have. Hope to see you this Tuesday.
