Warrant Details Tolland Fake Check Scheme Worth 'Millions' Of Dollars
A Tolland man is facing felony charges in connection with a "bad check" scheme, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT β A 36-year-old Tolland man is facing criminal charges amid accusations that he was circulating "bad" checks to the tune of "millions" of dollars, according to an arrest warrant.
Rock Labelle has been charged with two counts each of issuing a bad check worth more than $2,000 and first-degree forgery. Both are felonies.
According to a warrant, the investigation began in November, when state police received a tip that Labelle, identified as the owner of a local remodeling company, was writing "fake" checks from bank accounts that had been closed or even nonexistent. State police were also informed that some of the checks may have been "manufactured," according to a warrant.

Examples given were one check for $4,200 made out to Labelle for "pay," another in the amount of $1,800 for "work" and another for $4,100 for "work items," according to a warrant.
Police were also tipped off to checks Labelle possessed checks from a "bank" called "discover" in amounts that included amounts of $400,000, $10,000 and even more than $300 million, according to a warrant. State police spelled out "three-hundred-million" in a warrant for emphasis.

A real estate agent complained that two checks issued by Labelle in the tens of thousands of dollars were returned as "fake," according to a warrant.
Labelle denied any involvement in any fabricated checks or checks from closed accounts, according to a warrant.
He posted a $50,000 bond and it due in Rockville Superior Court on April 23, records show.
