Weather Wreaks Havoc On I-84 In Tolland Tuesday

TOLLAND, CT β€” Tuesday's winter weather certainly wreaked havoc on a notorious stretch of Interstate 84 in Tolland.

The section of highway between exits 67 and 68 is know for a propensity for crashed because of its hills and subsequent fluctuating speeds. Add snow and ice and the highway turned into a mess of multiple crashes Tuesday, fire chief and public safety director John Littell said.

In all, there were six. The crashes Tuesday included:

  • In the afternoon, a sport utility vehicle spun out and rolled over in the left westbound lane, heading downhill toward the Vernon line.
  • Also in the afternoon, a sport sedan spun out on the left shoulder of the eastbound lanes near the message board.
  • In the evening, a compact SUV spun out and rolled over in the same area.

Littell said no major injuries were reported all day.

Wednesday started with a medical cal that at first involved a potential airlift, but the helicopter was called off and a person was transported to an area hospital, Littell said
