TOLLAND, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Twenty-three Eastern Connecticut State University environmental earth science (EES) students traveled to Wyoming and Idaho from May 24 to June 3 to study desert geology. Among the students was Danielle Whitcomb of Tolland, who majors in Environmental Earth Science. Highlights included seeing the vast geothermal features and beautiful landscapes of Yellowstone National Park, the stunning beauty of the Grand Tetons, the bleak lava plains and diverse volcanic landforms of Craters of the Moon National Monument, and the high alpine zone of the Idaho Rockies. At each location students spent time collecting observations and drawing conclusions about the geological features, earth processes and environmental issues. The group also participated in a rafting excursion down the Snake River, a tram ride to 10,500 feet elevation in Jackson Hole, WY, and fossil fish collecting in the Green River Basin.
