Willi Waste Merger To Have 'Minimal' Impact On Tolland Collection

TOLLAND, CT β€” Officials in Tolland said this week that the acquisition of Willimantic Waste by a Vermont company will have "minimal effect" on the local trash collection program.

Town officials said many of the same drivers and employees are staying on, "Since the new owners are committed to continuing the same great service we are accustomed to here in Tolland."

Officially known as the Willimantic Waste Paper Co., Willi Waste's root can be traded back to 1941.

On July 26, Vermont-based Casella Waste Systems, Inc., a regional vertically integrated solid waste, recycling and resource management services company, announced that it acquired Willi Waste.

Willi Waste provides residential, commercial and roll-off collection services in eastern Connecticut and serves more than 30,000 customers.

In addition, Willi Waste operates a rail-served construction and demolition processing and waste transfer facility, a waste transfer station, a single stream recycling facility, and several other recycling operations.

Casella expects to generate about $62 million in annualized revenues from the Willi Waste acquisition.
