TRUMBULL, CT — Two 16-year-old Bridgeport residents were arrested Monday after running from a stolen car parked at the Trumbull Mall, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said a 2021 Kia Sportage that was reported stolen from New Haven on Feb. 1 was spotted driving on mall property around 1 p.m.

Officers approached the two teens as they tried to get back in the Kia, but they both fled from the area and ran inside of the mall as officers chased after them on foot, Weir said.

Police caught up to the teens inside JC Penney and arrested them. According to Weir, one of the teens was wearing an ankle monitor bracelet due to a previous arrest.

The Kia's steering column was found to be significantly damaged and a USB cord was attached to the ignition, Weir said.
