TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport man accused of pointing a handgun at the driver of another vehicle on Route 25 in Trumbull was recently arrested, Connecticut State Police announced Thursday.
According to a news release provided by state police, Troop G troopers were called to the area of Route 15 southbound near Exit 30 in Westport around 9 a.m. on July 29 after receiving a report of a gun-waving incident.
State police said the report indicated the driver of a minivan had allegedly pointed a handgun at the complainant, who was driving an SUV.
No injuries were reported, state police said.
Troop G dispatch personnel were able to contact the registered owner of the minivan by phone and instructed them to drive to a rest area in Fairfield to meet with investigating troopers, state police said.
After separating the driver of the minivan from the vehicle, troopers identified him as Jeffrey Guerette, 44, of Bridgeport, according to state police.
During the investigation, troopers searched the minivan and found a loaded 9mm handgun within a box inside of the vehicle, which was seized as evidence, according to state police.
The driver of the SUV told troopers they were transporting three juveniles at the time of the alleged incident and had been traveling in the area of Route 8 and Route 25 northbound "when a minivan had allegedly cut off their vehicle in traffic and then began driving in an aggressive manner."
The driver of the SUV told troopers this caused them to fear for their safety and they attempted to create separation between the two vehicles, according to state police.
The driver of the SUV also told troopers that while traveling in the area of Exit 5 on Route 25 in Trumbull, they noticed the driver of the minivan "was holding what they believed to be a handgun and pointing it in their direction," state police said.
The driver of the SUV noted the incident had been captured by their vehicle's dash camera, according to state police.
"Investigators then reviewed the corresponding footage, which corroborated the complainant's account of the incident and was seized as evidence," state police said in a news release.
Guerette was arrested and taken to Troop G in Bridgeport, state police said.
Investigators also determined Guerette possessed a valid Connecticut pistol permit, which was seized during the course of the investigation, according to state police.
Guerette was charged with second-degree breach of peace, first-degree threatening by displaying a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
He was released on a $20,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to state police.
