Arrest Made In October Armed Carjacking In Trumbull: Police

TRUMBULL, CT — A 52-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday charging him with robbery, kidnapping, stalking and a host of other charges in connection with an armed carjacking in Trumbull on Oct. 13, according to police.

Jose Francisco Ramos, of Colorado Avenue, was apprehended in his home by U.S. Marshals and turned over to Trumbull police, who charged him with the following:

• Reckless Endangerment, 1st degree
• Kidnapping, 2nd degree with a firearm
• Larceny, 2nd degree
• Robbery, 1st degree
• Breach of Peace
• Stalking, 1st degree
• Weapons in a Motor Vehicle
• Criminal Violation of a Restraining Order
• Criminal Use of a Weapon
• Assault, 3rd degree
• Engaging Police in Pursuit
• Reckless Driving
• Operating under Suspension
• Evading Responsibility

The October incident began at about 7:40 a.m., when Trumbull police received multiple calls about an armed carjacking at an office building on Corporate Drive, where a gun was displayed.

Police said the victim reported that as she arrived for work and was sitting in her car her ex-boyfriend, Ramos, appeared, pointed a firearm at her, and began to force his way into her vehicle.

Ramos assaulted the victim, pushed her further into the vehicle and got into the driver’s seat, according to police.

"Ramos eventually put the vehicle into drive and attempted to drive away with the victim still inside," police said. "The victim, who was in fear for her life, managed to put the vehicle back into park, and escaped out of the passenger’s side door of her vehicle before Ramos fled in her car."

Officers spotted Ramos in the vehicle, but he sped off, driving recklessly, and struck another vehicle as he eluded capture.

The victim sustained minor injuries in the assault, and she was treated in Bridgeport Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Trumbull police said there was an active restraining order in place for the victim against Ramos, and several outstanding warrants for Ramos on similar domestic related charges against the victim.

Police said she told officers that "she would find minor damage to her vehicle," which frightened her.

"Ramos had also constantly attempted to contact the victim while she was at work during this time," police said. "Trumbull Police investigation determined that Ramos violated the active restraining order and an arrest warrant was eventually issued for this incident."

He was held on a $550,000 court set bond for the October 13 incident, and on charges of violation of a restraining order and harassment in connection with the other incidents from September.

Ramos is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court at a later date.
