Join us for the 5th Annual “Hearts of Freedom” Juneteenth Community Celebration — a meaningful and fun day of culture, community, and remembrance.

Friday, June 19, 2026
3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

On the lawn outside of Waveny House in Waveny Park, New Canaan

FREE & Open to All - Rain or Shine!

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 — the day the last enslaved Americans finally received news of their freedom. First celebrated in 1866, this powerful tradition now marks 160 years of history, resilience, and progress.

This year, we are especially honored to be part of New Canaan’s official America 250th Anniversary celebrations. All are welcome from near and far! Free to attend but registration is requested so we have enough supplies.  Link in "More Info" tab above.  (Drop ins also welcome!)

Enjoy an afternoon in a beautiful setting outside of the majestic historical Waveny House filled with:

  • Live Music from local favorite, The Misfits
  • Soul Food from 4-5 local black-owned food truck (always a hit with BBQ and other savory and sweet treats!)
  • Community Art led by local artist Tara Blackwell
  • Books and crafts led by the New Canaan Library
  • Celebration, Connection & Joy
  • Fun for all ages!
  • Plenty of free parking available

We are thankful to our sponsors and partners who help to make this free events possible:  Bankwell New Canaan, The Glass House, Walter Stewarts Market, Benchmark IT Technology Talent, new Canaanite.com, Exchange Club New Canaan and SLOBS (Service League of Boys.)
