Christmas Decorations on the First Day of Spring?!
Town Hall was festive up to the first day of spring, but decorations have since come down.
Spring has sprung. Lingering snow patches have finally found their way into oblivion. Hyacinths, daffodils and tulips peak their noses through the ground, nearly ready to make their entrance.
But wait a minute – did someone forget to tell Town Hall? Are those Christmas decorations I spied earlier this week?
“It’s funny you say that because we noticed the Christmas decorations today,” says Trumbull native, Jonathan Toth. Toth and Meeghan Hurley were enjoying the first day of spring passing a football at Twin Brooks Park. “It’s not Christmas anymore. It’s spring!” Toth insists, and he thinks the town should hurry up and get those decorations down.

Hurley was a little more accommodating. “It probably takes a bunch of time to put all those decorations up, so it will take time to take down,” she says.
Trumbull resident Rob Doris is not concerned about the Christmas decorations. “I still have to take mine off too,” he admits. “We’ve had a ridiculous amount of snow and it only broke two-three weeks ago. We should give the guys a little slack."

“It’s been such a harsh winter,” agrees Grace Thomas of Trumbull. “I think we can give (the town) a pass on that.” Thomas enjoyed the first day of spring admiring the pond at Twin Brooks. She adds, “Today I was driving down White Plains, thinking that it wasn’t so long ago when I couldn’t even see to make a turn because the snow banks were so big!”
Although Thomas isn’t too worried about taking the Christmas decorations down anytime soon, she does think it would a good idea to celebrate the current season.
“It would probably be nice to have something celebratory up for Spring – not religious – just something to symbolize the universality of re-birth.”
