Connecticut Swears In State Representatives For Legislative Session
State Reps David Rutigliano, Laura Devlin, and Ben McGorty received new legislative committee assignments in the January 4 session.
From U.S. State Representatives: State Representatives David Rutigliano (R-123), Laura Devlin (R-134) and Ben McGorty (R-122) were sworn in for the new legislative session and also received their new legislative committee assignments from House Republican Leader Themis Klarides as session gaveled-in on January 4th.
Rutigliano was re-elected to a third term, Devlin was elected to her second term and McGorty was elected to his second full term on Nov. 8th and in the days afterward they have prepared themselves for the start of the legislative session that opened on January 4th.
House Republican Leader Themis Klarides promoted Rep. David Rutigliano to the position of caucus Whip to shape public policy, assisting fellow Republican lawmakers and making sure Republican House members are in attendance to cast their votes on legislative issues.

Additionally, Rutigliano will serve another term on the legislature’s Labor and Public Employees committee, which has cognizance of all matters relating to workers' rights, compensation, unemployment compensation, conditions of employment, hours of labor, minimum wages, industrial safety, occupational health and safety, labor unions and labor disputes; and all matters relating to conditions of employment of state and municipal employees and the substantive law of state and municipal employees' collective bargaining.
Rep. Rutigliano also was re-appointed to the General Law committee this year. The General Law committee has cognizance of all matters relating consumer protection, fair trade and sales practices, consumer protection, mobile homes and occupational licensing; and all matters relating to alcoholic beverages.

Additionally, Dave was appointed to the bipartisan Regulation Review committee which reviews regulations proposed by state agencies and approves them before regulations are implemented.
State Rep. Laura Devlin received an appointment from House Republican Leader Themis Klarides to be the top Republican on the Government Administration and Elections committee.
Rep. Devlin is also returning to the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee for another two-year term where she will continue to fight attempts to raise taxes on families and businesses in Fairfield and Trumbull.
Devlin is preparing for challenges tied to her assignments as well as the responsibilities of being a state representative—particularly, taking an active role in resuscitating Connecticut’s ailing finances and stopping the avalanche of taxes on middle class families.
Additionally, Devlin will return to the legislature’s Transportation committee. The Transportation Committee has cognizance of all matters relating transportation, including highways and bridges, mass transit and railroads.
McGorty will serve on the Environment Committee, which oversees all matters relating to the Department of Environmental Protection, including conservation, recreation, pollution control, fisheries and game, state parks and forests, water resources and flood and erosion control; and all matters relating to the Department of Agriculture, including farming, dairy products and domestic animals. In addition, he will serve on the legislature’s Judiciary Committee which oversees matters relating to courts, judicial procedures, and criminal law, as well as all reviews all judicial nominees, and the Transportation Committee.
