Convicted Rapist Allegedly Sexually Assaults Trumbull Boy

Police arrested a registered sex offender after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy from Trumbull, police said.

Walter Santiago, 54, was arrested Thursday. Santiago allegedly befriended the boy whom he met through a neighbor and sexually assaulted him near the boy’s home.

Santiago was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a minor and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on a $1 million bond.

Santiago was convicted of first and second-degree sexual assault in 1996 and was released from prison in 2001.

Santiago goes by several alias including Walter Santiago Cebales, Walter Cebales-Santiago, Walter Ceballes, Walter Ceballos and Edwin Salgado, according to his listing on the state Sex Offender Registry. His listed address on the registry is on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport.
