Distraction Burglars Target Elderly Trumbull Resident

One burglar reportedly pushed his way past an elderly resident and began turning on the faucets. Jewelry was later reported missing.

Trumbull Police are reminding residents to be vigilant in preventing distraction burglaries after one was reported to police.

Two males arrived on a Reservoir Avenue address on June 24 and told a resident that the were troubleshooters for the water company.

One suspect was described as a 6-foot-tall white male between the ages of 30 and 35-years-old. He was wearing a white construction helmet and a lanyard. The other suspect was a Hispanic male about 5’10’ and was between 55 and 60-years-old.

The resident was wary and asked to see identification. The white male got on a radio and said the resident was giving him a hard time and then threatened to shut the water off.

The Hispanic male pushed his way past the elderly resident and began turning on faucets. During the commotion the resident lost site of one of the suspects.

She later discovered jewelry was missing.

Police remind residents to call them as soon as possible if they suspect an impostor utility worker.
