“New England’s Other Witch Hunt”

When people hear the term “with hunt,” they immediately think of Salem, Massachusetts and its infamous trials. In reality, Connecticut convicted and hung more witches than any other New England state.  Beginning in the 1660’s, Connecticut conducted a series of witch hunts and trials which sparked an outbreak of fear and paranoia in society regarding witchcraft and black magic.

Connecticut State historian Walter Woodward will lecture on this fascinating and little-known story this October in the Trumbull Main Library’s community room. Woodward is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Connecticut and specializes in New England’s early history and recently completed the book Prospero’s America: John Winthrop, Jr., Alchemy, and the Creation of New England Culture 1600-1676.

This lecture will be held on Sunday, October 21st at 2 pm in the Community Room. There will be a suggested donation of $5 at the door. Refreshments will be provided.
