First Day Of School Filled With 'Happy Faces' In Trumbull

TRUMBULL, CT — Teachers and school district officials encountered happy faces as students returned to public schools Tuesday morning in Trumbull.

Superintendent Martin Semmel told Patch the first day of school went very well overall, and each school appeared to be running smoothly as he and some members of the Board of Education visited the buildings Tuesday.

"The principals were well prepared to welcome students and staff into the new school year," Semmel said. "I saw a lot of happy faces on students, parents and staff as we made our way to each of our buildings."

Police Lt. Brian Weir said no issues were reported Tuesday morning as students returned to school.

Last week, Trumbull police offered a number of safety tips for residents to keep in mind as students returned to school, including keeping a sharp eye out for pedestrians, being aware of all school zones and watching for crossing guards at crosswalks within school zones.

"There is nothing significant to report outside of the norm," Weir said.

Semmel noted the district receives requests and concerns each year about transportation due to the fact that it takes about a week to maximize the efficiency of its bus runs.

"We just ask for patience as we listen to concerns and make any necessary changes," Semmel said. "We are looking forward to another terrific school year in Trumbull."

Board of Education Chair Lucinda Timpanelli said Tuesday was "a spectacular day" and all the students she and other board members encountered that day were excited and happy upon their return to school.

"Board members visited the schools," Timpanelli said, "and were impressed by the positive energy that comes with the first day of school."
