First Selectman Tim Herbst challenges state treasurer to debate

Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst, who is challenging incumbent Denise Nappier for the state treasurer, called on her to debate him, according to the Hartford Courant.

Herbst said that Nappier has ignored his requests for debates about the state’s pension system.

Herbst, a Republican, said that the 16-year Democrat incumbent Nappier has to answer questions about unfunded pension liabilities. He also said the treasurer position has too much power.

Legislative Republicans proposed a board that could override the elected treasurer, but the proposal was rejected by legislative Democrats.
