Former Teacher Gets Accelerated Rehab After Relations with 14-Year-Old

Timothy Leonard said he didn't know the boy was 14 and thought he was college-age, according to police.

A former Wilton teacher accused of having intimate contact with a 14-year-old in Trumbull was given two years of accelerated pretrial rehabilitation.

Timothy Leonard was also ordered not to have contact with the boy, according to the Trumbull Times. He resigned from Middlebrook school in Wilton on June 30 where he was a seventh-grade teacher.

An official with the state attorney’s office looked at the 15-year-old’s photos posted to the online dating site Grindr and said they appeared to make him look older. The 15-year-old said he felt bad about what he did to Leonard.

A Trumbull officer was on patrol Feb. 10 and noticed a car parked in a secluded part of the Bow Tie cinema parking lot.

The officer learned that Leonard, 37, and the boy who was 14 at the time had intimate relations. Leonard denied knowing the boy was younger than 18 and said he thought he was college-age, according to police.. Leonard was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Leonard will have charges dismissed if he successfully completes the accelerated rehabilitation program.
