Herbst Makes Budget Proposal, But Malloy Aid Question Remains

TRUMBULL, CT — First Selectman Tim Herbst has put forth two budget proposals, one of which deals with a possible $5.6 million cut in aid from the state.

The cut would come from a reduction in aid and burdening towns with one-third of the cost of teacher pensions.

The best case scenario budget increases spending by 2.9 percent, but would only require a 1.9 percent tax increase due to growth in the grand list, according to the Trumbull Times.

If Malloy's budget proposal goes through the town could be looking at a 5.89 percent tax increase, but Herbst said he would veto any budget that comes with a greater than two percent increase.
